Kutná Hora

Kutná Hora, often called „the silver jewel among Czech towns“, offers numerous admirable historical monuments. The Church of St. Barbora, Cathedral of Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist and the historical centre of the urban heritage site reserve were listed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. Apart from its history, the former silver mining town is also proud of a rich list of cultural events that, every year from March till September,  fill the streets with twenty thousand of locals and with the crowds of visitors.

Season Opening in Kutná Hora

The ninth edition of “Probouzení Kutné Hory”, an event opening the touristic season in Kutná Hora, known as the silver jewel among towns, will explore the tradition of bell founders and bell-ringers in Kutná Hora. Apart from learning about how bells are made and their history, the visitors will have access to the south tower of the Jesuit College; there will also be two concerts. In the first concert, visitors will hear The Travelling Carillon of Prague, while in the second concert the Municipal Wind Orchestra of František Kmoch (Městská hudba Františka Kmocha Kolín) and USPS Tyl Orchestra of Kutná Hora will join forces in the St. Barbora Church.

The shows will take place on 25th and 26th April between 9:00p.m. and midnight. The special light show will start at 15-minute intervals. It will never be shown in any other place again. Do not miss out on it! And do not forget to bring all your family to experience this exceptional spectacle!

Spectrum

Spectrum (lat., image as an instance of something that is seen) is an allegorical analysis of the sensation of image and of the moment enabling the innovation process. It explores manifestations of a virtual world within dedicated physical space. Silver, one of the symbols of Kutná Hora, the fundamental property of which is the ability to reflect light and to mirror reality when polished, is ideal for being connected with the Church of St. Barbora, another symbol of this town. This synthesis results in an abstract graphics approach to silver and its journey through time. By this original video-mapping, the Czech art group The Macula relates to Khôra, a very successful show of the last year’s SIGNAL Prague Light Festival.
