The CZECH THE LIGHT Project Is Bringing Modern Light Art to Olomouc
The series of cultural events CZECH THE LIGHT supported by the CzechTourism agency in cooperation with SIGNAL festival is heading to Olomouc after its successful stops in Kutná Hora and Brno. The event will last for four June evenings and its visitors will be able to admire light works of distinguished Czech and foreign artists.
The main programme of the Olomouc CZECH THE LIGHT event will take place on 11th – 14th June and will present five light installations that will illuminate the city’s centre on evenings between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The works by Rony Plesl, František Skála, Josef Šafařík, Jakub Nepraš and Canadian artists Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garret will be installed in carefully selected locations and presented in new and original artistic context. The installations will accompany the traditional Olomouc City Festival; its programme will also include a fair and a procession to the Church of St. Moritz on 13th and 14th June.
Two fun workshops will be held as part of the CZECH THE LIGHT event in Olomouc. As early as 31st May, light painting will be out in the streets for families with children as well as all the others to try it out. The darkness will serve for canvas and different light sources will be used instead of pigments to make the light paintings. The workshop will start at 9:00p.m. in Smetanovy sady; admission is free. If you own a camera and tripod, do not definitely leave your home without them. More photo equipment means more groups that will be able to do their light paintings at the same time; and of course, you will be able to take your printed works home with you.
The second workshop will close the CZECH THE LIGHT event in Olomouc. The workshop entitled “Light Painting Basics” will be held on 14th June and will teach participants how to create almost unbelievable photo effects using special light sources and longer exposure. The workshop is short and fun and is prepared for non-professionals interested in this technique.
The CZECH THE LIGHT project was visited by 10,000 people in Kutná Hora and 60,000 in Brno. We do hope that it will become similarly popular in Olomouc as well!
