CZECH THE LIGHT Is Bringing Modern Light Art to Brno
CZECH THE LIGHT, a series of cultural events supported by the CzechTourism agency in cooperation with SIGNAL festival is bringing modern light art to Brno! A number of light installations will light up the streets of the largest south Moravian city on three evenings in May. After dark, spectators will be able to admire works of major Czech and international artists in unsual locations.
The CZECH THE LIGHT project is starting in Brno on 3rd May by an interactive light art workshop led by visual artist Ondřej Chmel. The workshop is suitable for all age groups. It is an attractive option for families with kids as well as all those who wish to try out light painting. Darkess will serve as canvas and different light sources will be used as paints by the participants who will be painting their light paintings in the dark. Participants are recommended to bring their own cameras and tripods, as several workshop visitor groups will be able to draw their light paintings at the same time then. The workshop that will be held in the park just behind the Brno House of Arts will start at 9:00p.m. in order for the paintings to be well visible. All visitors will be able to take their printed works home with them.

The main events of the CZECH THE LIGHT series in Brno will take place between 15th and 17th May when they will accompany the traditional Brno Museum Night. A number of light installations by artists like Rony Plesl, Andrej Boleslavský, Jakub Nepraš, František Skála, Josef Šafařík, Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett, Vladimír 518 and David Vrbík will be illuminating the Brno streets after dark. One and only experience guaranteed!

There will also be two workshops for a limited number of participants held in Brno. On 16th May, you can find out how to use light design at a workshop called „Light as Dressed Darkness“ (for details see here). On 17th May, „Light Painting Basics – Luminography“ workshop will have its turn, there you will be able to learn how to adorn your photos by using the popular light paintbrushes (for details see here).

The CZECH THE LIGHT project already visited Kutná Hora where the audience reached over 10,000. We hope to see similar crowds in the streets of Brno!
