A Look Back at the Breathtaking CZECH THE LIGHT Event in Olomouc
The audience in Olomouc was enjoying the CZECH THE LIGHT cultural events series between 11th and 14th June. Almost 5,000 people came to see the unique light installations in almost tropical weather; accompanying events including fun and creative light painting workshops enjoyed much attention as well. The traditional City Festival was also taking place on 13th and 14th June.
The works of Rony Plesl, František Skála, Josef Šafařík, Jakub Nepraš and Canadian artists, Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett lit up Olomouc for four evenings. The leading Czech and international artists exhibited their works in the most attractive locations of the historic centre of the city. While Metropolia fascinated visitors of the Modern Art Museum, the House of Shadows and Uranium Figure took advantage of the beauty of the St. Barbora Chapel.  The interactive CLOUD installation enjoyed literally magical settings by the pond in Smetanovy sady park. And to crown it all, there was the fiery Sun perfectly matching Terezská brána gate. Delight yourself by looking at the Sun as well as the other installations in our photo gallery.

The Olomouc stop of the CZECH THE LIGHT series supported – like the other events – by the CzechTourism agency in cooperation with the SIGNAL Festival, was preceded by light painting in the streets on 31st May. The family workshop prepared by Andrej Boleslavský was attended by approximately 100 visitors who took pleasure in creating original photographs capturing strokes of special light brushes (for the photo gallery see here). The workshop held on 14th June was also successful. At the workshop, Ondřej Chmel was teaching the basics of the popular light painting winning a number of new friends to this technique. Thank you to all of you who took part in the CZECH THE LIGHT events in Olomouc!
What is next on the CZECH THE LIGHT agenda? As soon as 21st June, there will be a light painting event in Pilsen and a similar event will be held on 19th July in Ostrava. And at the beginning of September, the project is going to visit Český Krumlov, where the light installations will accompany the close of the revolving theatre season.
